Mom, I Have a Headache!

Just had to jot down this about Melanie because I don't want to forget it. A while back Melanie was gone playing at her friend Hannah's house. I went to pick her up on our way out to my sisters house. Melanie hopped in the car and this is how our conversations went;

Me: Get buckled because we are going to go and play with Makayla and Luke

Melanie: But mom I need to go home first.

Me: Why?

Mel: Because I have a headache.

Me: We can take care of it when we get to Kayla's house.

Mel: No I need to go home.

Me: Why?

Mel: Well mom, I just need to go home and get some water and watch a show and play some WII, then my headache will be ok.

Me: We can do all of that at Kayla's house.

Mel: Well ok mom.

I think that with it being winter and all we have done a lot of watching TV and playing video games. Maybe we should start to cut back on those. Anyone have any good charts or ways of controlling the amount of TV watching? I do think it was cute that she thought all of that would help her headache feel better though.

don't feel guilty, I swear its the best thing for cabin fever! But I know what you mean, it's so hard to not let them!! I am not a great person to ask. I liked Melanie's excuse, thats cute!!

Yeah...the TV comes on at our house a lot these days too! I periodically unplug it and say it's broken for the day.

Yeah we have the same problem but it is just the TV since we don't have a WII, yet. When it is bed time we have to tell Rayden that the TV went to bed! I need some good ideas too on how to stop the addiction!

Sounds like our family too. I can't wait until it is warm enough to go outside and play!

I don't know if I have any suggestions because we definitely have the same problem! I recently heard a mom say that instead of turning on the TV she turns on quiet/fun music for her kids to listen to. I have tried it a few times, and it has worked for me as well. I also have a friend who gives her kids 2 TV coupons each day to use. Each time they turn on a show they have to give her one of their coupons. When they have used both coupons then their TV privileges are over for the day. I haven't tried it- but thought it sounded like a good idea.
