Halloween 2008

We had a fun Halloween. The kids loved trick or treating. Matt didn't last as long as the girls, but he had fun handing out candy with Brad. They came home with way too much candy and have been on a sugar high ever since. The girls wanted to sit out on the porch in their costumes and hand out candy to all the kids when they got home. They had a lot of fun seeing all the different costumes.
Matt protested to everything we tried to put on him this year, so we threw on his favorite hat and gave him a bat and poof he was a baseball player

Pumpkin Carving!

We the Hiatt girls had a blast carving pumpkins this year, i say girls because Brad and Matt did not participate in the carving of the pumpkins this year. Things got so busy and Halloween jumped up on us so fast that it came Friday Oct 31 and we hadn't carved our pumpkins. So since Brad had to work he was excused from the carving of pumpkins, which I don't think he was too bummed about, this is not his favorite activity. So the decision was made that we would carve our pumpkins during Matt's nap on Halloween day. The girls had a lot of fun carving them. Both were unique in what they wanted.

We got the tops off and this is the conversation I had with Melanie when she saw what was inside of the big round pumpkin:

Mel: Mom, we need gloves to touch it.

Me: What?

Mel: Mom I need my gloves so i can touch it inside.
Me: Laughing, I don't think we have any gloves

Mel: Mom i really really need gloves.

Me: More laughing

She then gave up on me and while I was containing myself I heard Kaitlyn and her having a conversation about the seeds.

Mel: Look Kaiplyn (that is how Melanie says Kaitlyn's name) it is the pumpkins seeds

Kaitlyn: I know Mel, maybe we can grow them
both of them: Mom can we grow them
Me: Maybe next spring

Kaitlyn: These seeds are the babies

Mel: Yep and this (pointing to her pumpkin) is the mommy.

Kaitlyn: We better get them out so they can grow.

I finally talked them into at least trying to pull it out with their hands, which I was proud of them for trying, but we got the spoons out pretty fast and I helped them get all the goop and seeds out.

Here are some pictures from the eventful afternoon.

Halloween Carnival!

We all had a fun time at out neighborhood Halloween carnival. Matthew threw a fit right before we were leaving as we were trying to get his Buzz costume on. After Brad and I forced it on him (yes we are mean parents) he ran away from us and hid under our kitchen bar being very sad repeating, "off, off off" pulling at his costume. So we eventually took it off him and took him to the party in his street closes. The girls were so excited to be able to wear their costumes early and had so much fun at the party. The fishpond and facepainting were some favorites.

The girls have been asking to see the high school marching band perform for a while now. So for FHE we took them to the parents night show. They had a lot of fun!!! The only bummer was that the uniforms were at the dry cleaners. It was a bit chilly, but we all had a lot of fun!

Crazy Hair Day!

It is red ribbon week this week and all week Kaitlyn's school has been doing something different each day. They had wear blue day, wear you favorite sports day, and today was crazy hair day. Since I am not the greatest hair person around and it is a miracle that my girls hair even gets done each day, I didn't really want to tackle this one. But hey how can you mess up crazy hair day? Exactly, you can't. If only everyday could be crazy hair day. So since we woke up late I had about five mins to figure it out, which was probably a good thing. This is what we came up with during that five min.

Kaitlyn loved it, therefore I did too. She never leaves her hair in. The first thing she does when she gets home is to take out her hair. Well today was a different story she left all the pony tails in all day long. She really wanted her dad to see it.

Mel Singing with her Hannah Montana Guitar

Melanie loves her new guitar, this video was taken at her birthday party. Sorry I kept changing the camera. She isn't singing very loud in this video, but she has become very vocal since. I will have to try and get a video now that she sings as loud as she can, and I mean LOUD. But for now enjoy!

Happy 4th Birthday Melanie!

Melanie is now 4 years old. I can't believe how old she is getting. She was so excited for her birthday, I can't even explain her excitement! She decided she wanted to have a rainbow party and invite, grandpa and grandma Blake, grandma and grandpa Hiatt, and Johnson's. She also wanted to invite all the rest of her cousins, but they live too far away. We had everything rainbow! The kids played don't eat Pete while waiting for Grandpa Blake and dad to get home from Smithfield Implement. She loved all of her presents, cake and couldn't wait to hit the rainbow pinata. Grandpa Blake read Matthew a ton of books while waiting.
The guests she wanted the most, her grandparents. We were so glad they were willing to do the long drive for our sweet Melanie. It made her Day!

Every present she opened she held up with her leg it was really funny and cute

There was a theme with a lot of her presents, Hannah Montana. She absolutely loves Hannah Montana in fact that is what she is going to be for Halloween.
When she opened this stroller she gasped and said in a high pitch squeal, "A Stroller!"
She loves her new guitar and microphone and is singing with it all the time.
