Pumpkin Carving!

We the Hiatt girls had a blast carving pumpkins this year, i say girls because Brad and Matt did not participate in the carving of the pumpkins this year. Things got so busy and Halloween jumped up on us so fast that it came Friday Oct 31 and we hadn't carved our pumpkins. So since Brad had to work he was excused from the carving of pumpkins, which I don't think he was too bummed about, this is not his favorite activity. So the decision was made that we would carve our pumpkins during Matt's nap on Halloween day. The girls had a lot of fun carving them. Both were unique in what they wanted.

We got the tops off and this is the conversation I had with Melanie when she saw what was inside of the big round pumpkin:

Mel: Mom, we need gloves to touch it.

Me: What?

Mel: Mom I need my gloves so i can touch it inside.
Me: Laughing, I don't think we have any gloves

Mel: Mom i really really need gloves.

Me: More laughing

She then gave up on me and while I was containing myself I heard Kaitlyn and her having a conversation about the seeds.

Mel: Look Kaiplyn (that is how Melanie says Kaitlyn's name) it is the pumpkins seeds

Kaitlyn: I know Mel, maybe we can grow them
both of them: Mom can we grow them
Me: Maybe next spring

Kaitlyn: These seeds are the babies

Mel: Yep and this (pointing to her pumpkin) is the mommy.

Kaitlyn: We better get them out so they can grow.

I finally talked them into at least trying to pull it out with their hands, which I was proud of them for trying, but we got the spoons out pretty fast and I helped them get all the goop and seeds out.

Here are some pictures from the eventful afternoon.

Cleaning the dirt off of the pumpkins

Digging in with their hands (no gloves)

How fun! We didn't have time to carve Pumpkins this year. I realized this on Halloween day also. I still might carve one with Jaxon anyway. Your girls are so cute.

You are a good mom to deal with that mess. I now know why in my house growing up we always painted our pumpkins. But they turned out great!

That is so funny and so cute!--I love the part where she asks for gloves.
You're good to carve them with them. This year we ran out of time too, and instead of carving, we got out a permanent marker and drew faces on! --Mindy
